About
"I think everything in life is art. What you do.
How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea, How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art."
-Helena Bonham Carter

KATY WOOTEN
I grew up on Long Island, New York and hold degress in both Cultural Anthropologie and design.
I am a graduate of StonyBrook University and The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where my work was selected and featured numerous times for shows. My early career was shaped in New York City through work with the legendary A. Schneller & Sons, as well as serving as Head of the Designers & Agents trade shows for both the New York and Tokyo markets. I also worked at the American Museum of Natural History, as an ethnography researcher for the exhibits and gained design knowledge and experience that continue to inform my respect for craft, history, and detail.
Design is in my DNA. My father was an architect, and my mother is a practicing interior designer in New York, with whom I still collaborate regularly. That foundation in architecture and interiors informs every project I take on. Design has been a part of my everyday world since I was a little girl making clothes out of my mothers scrap wallpaper and fabric books.
Today, I live in Alaska with my husband and two children, on the side of a mountain where life feels expansive, peaceful, and grounded. We spend our time camping, rafting, and traveling, and I am constantly studying design everywhere I go, bringing that inspiration back with me. In the quiet of our mountainside home, I design with focus and intention, while traveling often between New York and Alaska. Moving between urban and wild continues to shape the way I see and create.
I’m endlessly curious and visually attuned, gathering inspiration everywhere I go. I love sewing, fashion, cooking, and I’m a lifelong yogi. These practices reinforce my belief that design is about rhythm, balance, and how a space supports real life.
The Calanques is based between Alaska and New York, offering both remote and on-site design services for residential projects wherever the work brings me.
